ESA and ESILV: a strategic partnership to develop space technologies in Europe

ESILV and the European Space Agency are embarking on an academic and scientific collaboration to strengthen European expertise in space engineering.

This partnership marks a new stage in ESILV’s commitment to technological innovation and scientific cooperation at the European level.

A collaboration to advance space engineering

ESILV and the European Space Agency (ESA) have signed a partnership agreement focused on research and teaching in the field of space systems.

This partnership aims to pool resources and expertise in order to develop joint projects with a strong scientific and technological impact.

This cooperation is based on several areas: knowledge sharing, organization of training activities, pooling of technical facilities, and promotion of expertise in areas of common interest. The objective is clear: to strengthen Europe’s position on the global space scene.

ESILV x ESA partnership: shared objectives for a stronger European space sector

Through this agreement, ESILV and ESA aim to create lasting momentum around space technologies.

The signatories wish to capitalize on their complementary strengths in order to contribute to the development of innovative systems based on autonomy, artificial intelligence, and the design of advanced space solutions.

ESA is committed to providing its expertise and infrastructure to support activities such as seminars, workshops, and educational projects. ESILV, for its part, will make its academic expertise available as part of its Aerospace & Defence curriculum, available for Master Degree in Engineering – Grande Ecole Programme students.

Space engineering at the heart of the Aerospace & Defence curriculum

ESILV’s Aerospace & Defence curriculum trains engineers to meet the contemporary challenges of the space sector. It covers areas such as flight and orbit dynamics, space system design and automation.

Significant emphasis is placed on applied artificial intelligence, with modules dedicated to machine learning for anomaly detection, performance optimisation and real-time decision-making.

According to Pascal Pinot, Director of ESILV, this programme meets international standards and prepares future engineers for the industrial and scientific challenges of the space sector, while offering them an experimental framework aligned with the sector’s needs.

The European space sector: a strategic industry in expansion

The partnership comes at a time when the European space sector is experiencing strong growth. It represents nearly 35,000 direct jobs, including 15,000 in France.

Driven by innovation and sovereignty issues, the European space ecosystem benefits from strong institutional and industrial support.

The ESA plays a central role in this dynamic, bringing together the efforts of its Member States around scientific and peaceful programmes. The impact of its activities extends beyond space exploration, with concrete benefits for the environment, the economy and security.

Aerospace & Defence at ESILV: space technologies and innovation at the heart of engineering studies

In line with the partnership between ESILV and the European Space Agency, the Aerospace & Defence programme is aimed at engineering students wishing to specialise in the fields of aeronautics, space and defence.

Offered as part of the engineering programme, this course covers the major technological areas that shape the industries in this sector: flight and orbit dynamics, combustion and propulsion, system automation, connectivity, advanced modelling and digital simulation.

The educational approach is based on applied projects carried out in collaboration with academic and industrial partners such as École Polytechnique, ENSAM and the LeoFly student association.

The modules offered enable students to master the entire development cycle of an aerospace system, from design to validation, incorporating the latest advances in artificial intelligence, multiphysics computing and embedded cybersecurity.

This programme contributes to the training of engineers capable of supporting the transformation of the space sector and meeting the growing need for technological expertise at European level. It is therefore a strategic lever in the implementation of the partnership with the ESA, preparing the talent that will build the systems of tomorrow.
