L’Usine Nouvelle: ESILV in the Top 10 of the overall engineering school ranking

According to the latest ranking published by L’Usine Nouvelle, ESILV is among France’s top 10 engineering schools in 2025. With campuses in Paris La Défense and Nantes, the school reaffirms its position as a generalist institution focused on digital technologies.

A key event each January, L’Usine Nouvelle‘s ranking of French engineering schools includes, in its 2025 edition, 128 schools accredited by the Commission des titres d’ingénieur (CTI), all of which deliver a recognised engineering degree. Although more than 200 schools are CTI-accredited, the magazine chose to rank only those with over 70 graduates per year group.

The 2025 ranking is based on four main criteria and 15 indicators: graduate employability, international outreach, research, and links with industry.

L’Usine Nouvelle’s 2025 edition introduces a new indicator: the percentage of graduates working in industry six months after graduation. This change favours schools specialising in this area. Despite the adjustment, ESILV remains in the top 10.

Published by a leading media outlet in business and industrial news, this ranking highlights institutions that train engineers for strategic sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy, and healthcare. While ESILV reached the podium in 2023, it maintains its strong position among the best French engineering schools in 2025.

Revised International Criteria

The international dimension has been significantly revised. Previously, three indicators were considered: the share of recent graduates employed abroad, the share of students undertaking a six-month internship abroad, and the share of students completing at least one semester of academic exchange abroad.

Only the first indicator is retained in 2025, as internship and exchange durations are not standardised across schools and are challenging to verify. Instead, the share of incoming and outgoing double-degree students has been introduced. On this international criterion, ESILV ranks 13th.

The weightings for each criterion are as follows:

  • Research: 25 points
  • International: 20 points
  • Employability: 30 points
  • Industry links: 25 points

The 2025 Ranking: A Decision-Making Tool

“There isn’t just one ranking in L’Usine Nouvelle; in fact, there are four thematic rankings where several institutions distinguish themselves, explains L’Usine Nouvelle.

Designed as a dynamic comparison tool, the 2025 league table aims to support student and employer decision-making. Users can filter schools by region, specialism, and whether they admit students post-bac or after preparatory classes.

The ranking also allows users to compare up to three schools across six criteria: overall ranking, employability, international outreach, research, overall score, and industry connections.
