ESILV’s MedTech & Health Major has been awarded the label of the competitiveness cluster Medicen Paris Region, a distinction recognising programmes that align closely with the priority needs of the Paris Region health tech ecosystem. This label confirms the curriculum’s quality and its role in training engineers who can support future medical and technological innovations.
This recognition reflects ESILV’s commitment to strengthening its position in health innovation and to addressing the expectations of industry stakeholders by training profiles at the intersection of digital technologies and healthcare.
Medicen: a label supporting skills in health and innovation
Medicen Paris Region, a competitiveness cluster dedicated to health innovation, has developed a label designed to recognise training programmes that best meet the needs of the healthtech sector.
ESILV’s MedTech & Health Major now joins the programmes identified as relevant for developing the skills required to support the digital and technological transformation of the medical sector.
The label attests to the quality of the academic content, the close links between the programme and its partner companies, and the curriculum’s ability to support graduate employability within the health innovation ecosystem.
Rigorous criteria for a selective recognition
Awarded for a two-year period, the Medicen Paris Region label is based on a rigorous evaluation process, including a review of the academic and strategic dossier, an oral assessment conducted by a pair of experts from industry and academia, and final deliberation by a jury.
In 2025, only 33 programmes were awarded the label, including four under the “Health Initiatives” category, representing a selection rate of approximately 60%.
The label provides several benefits:
- recognition of the alignment between the programme and sector needs;
- visibility within Medicen’s training catalogue;
- access to a network of more than 450 cluster members, including companies, laboratories and research institutions;
- participation in a community of labelled programmes sharing best practices and pedagogical cooperation.
A label offering recognition and opportunities
For Nicolas Lebon, Head of the MedTech & Health Major at ESILV, this recognition goes beyond academic acknowledgement.
“This label provides access to a genuine MedTech network, bringing together other programmes and companies in the sector. It represents a real asset for students, particularly when seeking an internship or a first job.”
He also underlines the role of Medicen Paris Region labelling as a guarantee of quality:
“The process is based on a rigorous evaluation by a jury and a selection committee. It strengthens the visibility of the Major and confirms that it trains profiles aligned with the expectations of the healthtech ecosystem.”
By joining the Medicen network, the MedTech & Health Major gains access to new collaborations and opportunities to share experience with other labelled programmes, contributing to the continuous evolution of teaching practices in support of health innovation.
The MedTech & Health Major: training at the crossroads of technology and life sciences
Through the MedTech & Health Major, ESILV engineering students develop dual expertise in life sciences and digital technologies.
The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, medical devices, regulation, biotechnology and health data.
This multidisciplinary approach prepares future engineers to work alongside healthcare professionals and researchers to design high-impact innovations such as brain–machine interfaces, intelligent prosthetics, rehabilitation support tools and connected medical monitoring devices.
Training the healthcare engineers of tomorrow
The award of the Medicen label confirms the relevance of ESILV’s positioning in technologies serving people (#TechForHumans).
Projects developed within the Major rely on the school’s infrastructure—including the FabLab, IoT laboratory and deep learning computing servers—and contribute to the emergence of innovative solutions recognised in national and international competitions.
This recognition strengthens the legitimacy of the MedTech & Health Major as a key contributor to healthcare engineering education, aligned with market expectations and the ambitions of a rapidly evolving sector.
